Papatango announces 2024 New Writing Prize shortlist

Papatango has announced the shortlist for the 16th edition of its New Writing Prize. The writing prize, run this year in partnership with London’s Park Theatre, received a record 1,589.

Entrants were vying for a full production at the Park Theatre in 2025 as part of a prize that includes publication by Nick Hern Books, a royalty of 8% of the box office, and a £7,500 commission with full developmental support.

The shortlist includes Hannah Doran for The Meat Kings! (Inc) Of Brooklyn Heights; Noga Flaishon for Memoriam; Daniel Grimston for Corpselight; Patty Kim Hamilton for Peeling Oranges; and Rhys Warrington for Monument with the winner announced next month.

Judged anonymously, the prize is the largest annual playwriting scheme in the UK. Previous writers produced as part of the competition have included Dawn King, whose winning play Foxfinder went on to have a West End run at Ambassadors theatre and last year’s winner Laura Waldren.
