Skin is a brand new stand-up show of story-based chaos with heart and peculiarities from award winning comedian Harriet Dyer, who you may have seen on Comedy Central Live, Rosie Jones’s Disability Comedy Extravaganza & The Russell Howard Hour).

In Skin, Harriet weaves together a story of friendship during a wayward time in her life with extraordinary anecdotes from her childhood in Cornwall and candid reflections on personal identity, society and the cunning nature of squirrels.

Q&A with Harriet Dyer

How does it feel to be returning to Edinburgh Fringe?

It feels mighty grand to be returning! I only did a week last year and felt very out of the loop, so am happy to be back with a vengeance this year.

What can you tell us about your show and its inspiration?

The show is about identity, friendship, mental health and squirrels! It came about because I wanted to tell the story of a girl I once knew and by starting to think about that I realised how much of an effect knowing her had on me and my life now… So I developed that into one big story.

How do you think audiences will react to the show

“Ooh bloody ‘eck, I’ve had a right ol’ laugh whilst taken on quite the journey too!”

How have you been preparing for the festival?

After about five years I’ve treated myself to a new cagoule because the old one smelt musty

Will you get a chance to enjoy the rest of the festival?

Yes, I love going to see shows. I go and see a lot of stuff by myself, I was glad of the app being back last year because often when there’s a gap in what I’m doing it’s great to be able to see what is where I am at exactly that time. I’ve learned not to plan too far in advance as things can pop up and I often talk myself out of things.

Do you have any Fringe anecdotes you can share with us?

I once almost got into a fight with someone whilst dressed in an inflatable diplodocus outfit.

Harriet Dyer: Skin is at Gilded Balloon Patter House from 31 July to 26 August
