Matilda the Musical is to embark on a UK and Ireland tour from next year.
The Royal Shakespeare Company production, based on the book by Roald Dahl, will open at Curve, Leicester in October 2025, before travelling to Bradford, Liverpool, Plymouth, Sunderland, Edinburgh and Manchester. Further dates beyond April 2026, including the Irish leg of the tour, are to be announced.
Matilda tells the story of five-year-old Matilda Wormwood who loves reading and possesses telekinetic abilities.
The West End production continues to play at the Cambridge Theatre where it opened in October 2011, following a run at the RSC’s Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. It won seven Olivier Awards and four Tony Awards.
The musical features a book by Dennis Kelly, music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and was developed and directed by Matthew Warchus. Casting for the tour is to be announced at a later date.
