National Theatre’s The Importance of Being Earnest announces full cast as rehearsals begin

The National Theatre has announced the full cast for director Max Webster’s ‘reimagining’ of Oscar Wilde’s classic play The Importance of Being Earnest which is set to star the already announced Hugh Skinner as Jack Worthing, Dr Who’s Ncuti Gatwa as Algernon Moncrieff and Sharon D Clarke as Lady Bracknell.

The members of the ensemble announced today are Shereener Browne, Jasmine Kerr, Gillian McCafferty, Elliot Pritchard and John Vernon who join the cast alongside Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́, Julian Bleach, Richard Cant, Amanda Lawrence and Eliza Scanlen.

Wilde’s comedy follows Jack and Algernon as they attempt to impress two eligible ladies before finding themselves caught in a web of lies they must carefully navigate.

The production runs the National’s Lyttelton theatre from 21 November 2024 to 25 January 2025 and will be screened in cinemas as part of National Theatre Live on 20 February 2025.
